Chinese medicine approaches the body from a different point of view than what we might be used to, yet most of what we will discuss will make total sense to you. I treat the body holistically and naturally with essentially no negative side effects. In fact what I usually see are "positive" side effects: you may come in for one thing, but all sorts of other things also get better with treatment!
You will receive quality care and attention from me. I pour everything I can into every appointment. I look forward to working with you!
I grew up in Kenya, attending the International School of Kenya, with travel to China every two years due to my father’s work with the United Nations. After 15 years in Kenya, I attended Yale University, graduating with a BS in Biology (ES93). After two years of cell biology research, I was strongly drawn to Chinese medicine and studied at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Manhattan, NY, graduating with a Master's degree, then continuing on to complete the Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM). I have been in private medical practice since 1999. I have also studied taichi since 1990 and have been teaching it for over 20 years.
A Note about Licensure
Acupuncture is state licensed, but SC only requires less than half of what my college required (4400 hours for a doctorate). I have also consistently exceeded ongoing continuing education requirements. Beware of those who have fewer hours of Chinese medicine training, because a little knowledge is dangerous.
Herbology is not licensed in the state of SC. Be careful to ascertain prior training and experience before taking an herbalist’s advice.
Angela Lee Chen, the artist
As an artist, my art is as diverse as my interests. I have been a digital artist on Photoshop and in graphic design since college. My mother, Rosa Lee, was a full-time artist in the medium of Chinese brush painting. When I was growing up, she would spend her days puttering in her studio, producing phenomenal work. I have come to realize that her creative imprint has shown up more and more in my life. Click here for my artist page.
